Course Description: A selection of French nineteenth-century novels approached from a variety of critical, historical, and theoretical perspectives. Readings will be drawn from the canon of classic works by Chateaubriand, Madame de Staël, Constant, Stendhal, Balzac, Sand, Hugo, Flaubert, Sand, Zola, Maupassant, Huysmans, and Proust.
