Global Black Poetry: The Working and Reworking of Blackness Across the World - (cross-listed with 01:195:440)

Course description: This course will provide a broad overview of the meaning and language rallied under the wide-ranging rubric of Global Black Poetry. Given Black poets’ response to Blackness, slavery, and colonialism, racism at home and abroad, we will meditate with this poetry to understand its immensity and flexibility. This course will evaluate poetry in Black cultures through specific case studies of Harlem, Paris, Africa, Haiti, the Caribbean and Francophone exiles worldwide.
