Application Information

The deadline for Fall 2013 admission is January 9, 2013.

Applications may be completed on-line at the following address:

http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu/apply.shtml

Please note that all application materials must be sent directly to the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions at the address above, not to the Department of French.  Application materials include:

- The Rutgers University Graduate Admission Application form
- Application Fee
- Three letters of recommendation
- A personal statement
- A complete set of transcripts
- A writing sample in French (10-20 pp. preferable)

In addition, applicants for the M.A. and Ph.D. programs must submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test scores. M.A.T. applications are considered only after the candidate has completed two summer courses in the Rutgers World Language Institute:  http://wli.rutgers.edu/wli.php?page=home

Financial Aid

Rutgers offers a variety of fellowships, scholarships, and teaching assistantships to qualified students with strong records of scholastic achievement and scholarly promise.

The Graduate School-New Brunswick administers major fellowships that offer tuition remission and stipends of $24,500 or more. Teaching assistantships also carry tuition remission and a salary above $25,000. The program offers outstanding applicants a combination of these forms of support, for up to five years. Exceptional applicants may be nominated for a University-wide Presidential Fellowship, which bears a yearly award of $35,000.
